Camp Notes
for the Cliff

A plain, honest guide to a night above the sea — what to bring, when to come, how to find us, and how the camp works.

Plan Your Night

Everything you need before you come.

We keep it simple at Bukit Asah. A village-run camping ground on the cliff, with furnished tents, clean facilities, and an open fire. These notes cover the practical bits so your first night here is an easy one — no surprises, just a clear sunrise over the strait.

Before You Come

What to bring,
and what to leave.

We give you the tent, the bed, and the fire. The rest is a short, honest list — pack light, but do not skip the warm layer.

Four things
you will be glad you brought.

A warm layer first — the cliff catches the sea wind and the nights are cooler than town, so a hoodie or light jacket makes all the difference. Then a power bank (sockets are limited near the tents), a head torch or small flashlight for the walk to the toilets after dark, and slippers or sandals for the grass and the dew in the morning.

The little extras
that make a night easier.

A refillable water bottle, a small towel, basic toiletries, and sunscreen for the morning light. If you are bringing your own gear, pack your tent, mat, and sleeping bag. Mosquito repellent is handy near the trees. Snacks are welcome — though the warung has hot food and cold drinks if you would rather travel light.

The Drive

How to find us,
step by step.

Bukit Asah sits on the headland at Bugbug, in Karangasem, East Bali. About 2.5 hours from Denpasar by car or scooter — here is the simple way to do it.

From Denpasar
east, through Candidasa.

Head east toward Karangasem and follow the coast road through Candidasa — an easy, scenic drive of around 2 to 2.5 hours. Past Candidasa, turn off at Bugbug and follow the signs toward Bukit Asah and Pantai Bias Putih. The final stretch is a small village road; take it slow.

Park below
then a short walk up.

There is a village parking area at the foot of the hill — a small fee of around Rp 5k for a scooter or Rp 10k for a car helps the local team that keeps the ground. From the parking it is a short climb on foot to the clifftop tents. It is not long, but it is uphill, so pack light and wear shoes you can walk in. Tell us your arrival time and we will meet you at the top.

Be Kind  ·  Easy Rules

Take your rubbish, keep it quiet at night.

Carry your trash back down with you, keep noise low after 22:00 so everyone can sleep, no loud music near the tents, and please respect the cliff edge — stay back from it in the dark. Fires only in the camp fire pit. It is a quiet, family-friendly ground.

Good to Know
Small Print  ·  Honest Notes

Bring cash, signal is patchy, weather wins.

Carry some cash — card payment is not always possible up here, and phone signal can come and go. Sunrise is never guaranteed; some mornings the cloud sits low. Pets and big groups are welcome with a heads-up. Book ahead for weekends and full moons, they fill up.
