Family-friendly, start to finish.
Shallow snorkeling at the Blue Lagoon, soft sand at Virgin Beach, marshmallows at the fire, and a sunrise that doesn’t need a long hike — the whole loop works for little ones, and barely dents the budget.
Sunrise on the cliff, snorkeling at the Blue Lagoon, an easy walk to Virgin Beach, and a fire under the stars — honest days out in East Bali, kind on the budget and good for the whole family.
You don’t need a packed itinerary here. The best things are close, simple, and cheap — first light on the headland, a swim in clear water down the coast, a beach you reach on foot, and the fire back at camp. Here’s how locals spend a day or two around Bukit Asah.
Six IdeasThe two things you came for are free and right where you’re sleeping — sunrise over the open sea in the morning, and the warmth of the bonfire at night.
Set your alarm for around 05:00, grab a hot kopi from the warung, and walk a few steps to the grassy edge. The sun climbs straight out of the sea over the strait — no entry ticket, no crowd, just the morning. The reason most people drive all this way.
Far from city lights, the night sky here is the kind kids point at. We light the fire most clear evenings — bring marshmallows, pull up close, and watch the stars come out over the sea. Quiet, cheap, and the easiest way to end a day at camp.
Want a little more? A short, gentle walk along the headland brings you to the point, where the cliff opens wider over the water. Doable in slippers, family-friendly, and worth being out before the light. Take a head torch for the walk up in the dark.
A bit more on the two outings guests ask about most — both cheap, both easy with kids, both close enough to do before lunch and still be back for the fire.
About 25 minutes down the coast, the Blue Lagoon at Padangbai is a calm, shallow cove full of fish — perfect for a first snorkel. Mask-and-fin rental runs around Rp 50.000, or bring your own. Go early before the day boats arrive. Local warungs sell coconuts and nasi campur on the sand.
A quiet white-sand cove tucked below the cliffs, a short walk down a path from the car park — locally called Pantai Bias Tugel, also known as Perasi or Virgin Beach. Soft sand, gentle swimming, and a row of simple warungs grilling fresh fish. Small parking fee, around Rp 10.000; the beach itself is free.

Everything down the coast is 15–30 minutes by scooter. No bike? Ask at the warung — the village can usually arrange a local driver for a half-day at a fair, agreed price. Fuel and parking are pocket change.
If you have a spare half-day, Karangasem rewards it — the Tirta Gangga water gardens, Taman Ujung, and the green terraces around the slopes of Agung. Entry fees are small, usually a few tens of thousands of rupiah, and the crowds are thin.
